I have returned to AEF,
Nothing much has changed here  :P
I am still using MKPortal, but however SMF as the forum...

But my number one reason that I have came here, is becuase I noticed that MKPortal is dead, but together, we can revive it!

I am planning on making an AEF Portal from MKPortal files, but need you AEF Developers to help me.

I came a long way from MKPortal noob, to a MKPortal Nerd  :xd: !


I however, still don't like AEF, but as the development goes on, I may stick with it!
If you develop a code inside AEF like the one used in MKPortal, and provide it to me, I may end up coding, coding, and coding it till it reaches to the limit, but of course I still need your support!
I know that Elwizard was happy in using MKPortal, but I am not sure what he's planning, but I hope he can join as he has more expierience than me.

I hope that this project would go nice, and perhaps, we can get some people over from other MKPortal + AEF users that are still out there!

The license of MKPortal prohibits us from modifying that script. You are not allowed to fork it. It's better to contact meo if you can.

I'd suggest that we make up a new portal from scratch (I'm currently doing that, and my progress on the development of that script is quite huge already), but the problem is that AEF's license is quite strict too.

But yes, after I'm done maybe I can release this mod/portal with instructions in it. But take note that it will be a manual install in most part, since unlike MKPortal which makes aef fit inside MKPortal's skin, the portal that I am making is using the skin of AEF itself, so you'll have to do large edits on the theme file too... It's mostly a manual job >.<

Well, MKPortal is dead today...

What I was planning on doing was making a stand-alone portal becuase it has more features in it than Mods and easier to install in the database.

What I meant by reviving MKPortal is re-writing the scripts inside it to make it improved, fast, and  clean than the MKPortal files.

This may take some time if I'm doing it alone so far... Hope that El would get back on ;-D .

I am currently working on it, and would give you a demo, but as I have no clue about AEF 1.0.9 or 1.0.8, or niether 1.0.7, I may end up coding it for AEF 1.0.6, and continue up.

Help would be nice...

If you want to work together, we may make a Mod type and a Stand-Alone type of the portal, and yes, if AEF comes in with the preinstallation of the capabilities, then we would make others happier :D.

Well, no live demo yet... and nothing much other than adding up pages and a news module...

Yes it's pretty basic as of now, but I'll be adding up more functionality, till then only should I put up a demo.

(I bet you could get the grasp on how I made it, just added up some few files to do the news and a few functions for adding up pages to the database... Just that as of now)

hmm if you are planing on Editing the Mkportal files and later distribute them,
well let me warn you before you do it! because MEO the Owner of Mkportal is a Lawyer and he will sue you, as MKportal is not under a regular GPL or GPU license.

I was a part of the Dev team at MKportal and we tried to make MEO change his mind about the license of the portal so that Coders would come back and make improvements and what not, but Meo had his mind set and decided that there will be no Changes to the license and that the MKportal is going to be closed, So we must respect his decision and let MKportal rest in peace.

Also i would not recommend you to try to improve the MKportal Code as there is noting to improve, what i mean by that is that the Code is so OLD and Limited,
it would be far better to make a new Portal from scratch, a portal with more flexibility and structure!
I was going to make my own Portal CMS but my funds are low ATM so its not happening.

But i might join you ppl if you are creating a New Portal from scratch as a Designer if you need one! ;)

Yeah, I am running low on funds also, so I was gathering ppl in this discussion as in right now, and I cant spend a lot of time on it by myself which may take about 2 or 3 years by my own.

Im also a student, so I may not have that long to finish it, more like 5 years or so, so please anyone, join the team.

And yes, I was deciding to make a portal from scratch...
But I cant start so far... Need suggestions, coders, and suggestions for the license to make it interesting to the users and the coders :D.

Yes, starting from scratch would be great, but it'll require huge amount of time.

Currently, I'm on my studies while working at the same time, so I do not have much time on my hands too. All I did was get the blank page mod here at AEF, and made it dynamic.

Before starting out, since you are planning to develop the portal with a team, I guess it's good to use OOP to make things easier.

By the way, you could try starting the project out. I'd suggest that the portal should not be inside AEF, instead, make AEF inside the portal. The reason why is that AEF's theme is quite bloated, and not designer friendly. A CMS should have a theme system that would be friendly for the designers.

I'm interested in mkportal , hey redsew your saying you became a nerd
of Mkportal.  Well, I'm trying to have a default avatar on
registration.  No success so far.

problem: users have no avatar after registration, they must select one manually.

objective: assign an avatar to user upon registration.
