MKPortal's codes are quite nice, but they still use a lot of functions that is gonna get depreciated on the next PHP release.

and using it's still using var in the classes...

Anyways, AEF would be a nice project ground, but it seems like the forum itself is dead. Someone should try to continue this project, but since this is not an opensource project, it'll prove troublesome.
